Nebbi Municipality has allocated 6 acres of land in Thatha Division along Arua Road for the construction of modern taxi and bus terminals under the UCMID project, succeeding the USMID program.

This World Bank-supported initiative targets 15 new municipalities and cities, with works in Nebbi expected to start next financial year at a cost exceeding Shs35 billion to the government.

The project revives a previously stalled effort under a 2021 Public Private Partnership (PPP) deal, which halted due to post-COVID financial issues. Developers had signed a memorandum allowing 15-year use of lockups, but the site was abandoned.

Principal Physical Planner Flavia Oyenyboth stated that developers will consent to demolition once designs are ready, with compensation promised as sitting tenants for 20 years post-completion. The project aims to employ over 1,000 youth, prioritizing the original 500 developers.

Developer Gilbert Onencan expressed support, urging clear communication to manage expectations. LCIII Chairperson Jackline Opar called for calm, highlighting potential livelihood improvements, while senior officer Adris Chukuru confirmed site clearance after design approval.
