Seven-year-old Jordan Omuse went missing on March 16, 2025, in Kawempe, Kampala, shortly after his mother brought him and two siblings from Tororo to visit his father, Martin Ocheng. The boy panicked amid security tensions following a by-election and fled, with the case reported to Kawempe Police Station the next day.
For over a year, the family endured heartbreak. Ocheng’s wife, Gorreti Katusiime, refused to return home without her son, straining their finances as he struggled with unstable work. Desperate searches, including visits to prophets and healers, yielded no results.
The turning point came on April 24, 2026, during an NTV Akawungezi segment on childcare regulations. A relative spotted a boy resembling Omuse in the background footage, originally from a Spark TV feature on Sanyu Babies Home.
The family acted fast. Omuse’s cousin, David Owuta, helped trace the clip, leading to contact with the babies home. There, the boy—known as Paul Baraka—immediately recognized his father and cousin, embracing them and asking for his mother.
Social worker Matia Kakooza explained that Omuse was found wandering in Nabweru, Wakiso District, soon after disappearing. A good Samaritan alerted police, who sent him to the home. Traumatized and initially silent, he gradually shared family details like ‘Ntinda’ but couldn’t be traced until now.
The reunion followed Children’s Act procedures, prioritizing the child’s safety. Ocheng expressed deep gratitude to Sanyu Babies Home, Spark TV, and NTV Uganda for their pivotal roles.
