Museveni Approves Eight Key Laws Including Copyright Amendment

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has given assent to eight important laws, one of which is the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Act, 2026. This update aims to enhance safeguards for artistic creations, benefiting creators, music producers, and distributors in Uganda’s entertainment sector.

In healthcare, the National Drug and Health Products Authority Act, 2026 widens regulatory powers over medicines, vaccines, devices, diagnostics, and cosmetics, enforcing stricter compliance.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, 2026 sets required standards, audits, and controls on wasteful technologies to promote better energy practices in homes and businesses.

Financial streamlining comes via the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust (Repeal) Act, 2024, which shuts down the Trust and shifts its duties to the Ministry of Finance.

Worker protections get a boost from the Employment (Amendment) Act, 2025, focusing on domestic, casual, and migrant employees.

Additional approvals include the Forensic and Scientific Analytical Services Act, 2026 for better evidence management in justice processes, the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture (Amendment) Act, 2024, and the Magistrates Courts (Amendment) Act, 2026.
