Authorities in Kwania district have detained two prefects at Abongomola Seed Secondary School in connection with the death of a Senior Four student.
Douglas Egaru and Ivan James Okello are accused of assaulting 21-year-old Solomon Lukori to death around 5am on Wednesday. The attack followed accusations that Lukori stole a jerrycan and bucket from the boys’ dormitory.
Lukori, from Emeng Village in Apolika Parish, Chawente Sub-County, tried to flee but was chased 400 meters from the school. The suspects caught him, beat him severely, then brought him back to the staffroom where he succumbed to his injuries.
North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed investigations are underway. A team including the district OC CID, homicide detectives, and Scene of Crime Officers processed the scene and documented it fully. Statements were taken from the deceased’s parents, school officials, and witnesses.
Witness Solomon Ocen, a Senior Four student, said Lukori was caught with the stolen items, which he planned to sell outside school amid ongoing thefts of jerrycans, plates, and buckets.
Alex Opara, a school board member and LC5 councillor, condemned the violence and urged the district to fund police community policing in schools to prevent such tragedies.
