A tragic incident unfolded in Terego District when two unknown gunmen killed 21-year-old boda boda rider Bill Yamindu from Ora Village, Olua Parish, Katrini Sub-county.
The attack occurred around 10:00am near Katrini Secondary School. Yamindu had been hired from the boda boda stage at Ojipaku Trading Centre by the assailants, who directed him along Katrini Secondary School Road.
As they turned back upon spotting workers in nearby fields, the hooded attackers drew a gun from a backpack and shot Yamindu in the right side of the back, killing him instantly. They fled on his red Bajaj motorcycle, whose number plate was still being processed by the Uganda Revenue Authority.
The incident was reported to police at 10:30am. West Nile regional police spokesperson Josephine Angucia confirmed that territorial police documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and took the body to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
One man, Moses Otori, was arrested with community assistance to aid investigations. Inquiries continue under Terego District CRB 152/2026, with police hunting the suspects, gun, and motorcycle.
Angucia warned against illegal firearms, noting they fuel gun violence, and called for public tips. Deputy Resident District Commissioner Emmanuel Munduni urged boda boda riders to stay vigilant against criminals using deceptive tactics.
Police data from 2025 shows a 10.2% drop in overall crime to 196,405 cases, but aggravated robberies exceeded 40,300, many involving guns, with rising theft values and low recoveries.
