Uganda’s breathtaking natural attractions featured prominently in the latest episode of the French travel series Échappées Belles (Great Escapes) Ouganda, which aired on France 5 Television starting April 25, 2026. This Season 20 installment, running for the next month, follows host Ismaël Khelifa on an 11-day adventure through national parks, showcasing gorilla trekking, game drives, and local cultural experiences.

Funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Economic and Commercial Diplomacy programme and supported by the Uganda Embassy in Paris, the documentary aims to elevate Uganda’s visibility among French audiences. A special premiere event took place at La Marina des Maqueureaux in Paris, hosted by Uganda’s Ambassador to France, Doreen Amule.

Ambassador Amule emphasized Uganda as the world’s best-kept secret for French explorers, while filmmaker Khelifa called it a biodiversity treasure. Margaret Kafeero, Head of Public Diplomacy at the ministry, noted that 80% of French travelers visit destinations after seeing them on TV, praising the embassy’s tailored approach.

Daniel Irunga from the Uganda Tourism Board hailed the event for inspiring French tour operators to include Uganda in their offerings, urging more embassies to create localized content.

This milestone underscores Uganda’s efforts to project a premium image and boost soft power through authentic storytelling.
