The Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted intelligence-driven operations, arresting 169 foreign nationals in a Bukoto apartment complex in Kampala. Among them were 36 women from countries including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Authorities seized computers and IT equipment used for illegal gaming, betting, and organized scamming inside the fortified facility, which featured its own restaurant and restricted access. None of the suspects had passports or identification; they claimed these were held by absent bosses.

In Adjumani District, 62 Nigerian nationals were nabbed on April 27 for lacking work permits while running an illegal church. Some admitted to being trafficked with false job promises, others to cyber fraud.

All 231 detainees are under screening at the Namanve facility. Violators face prosecution, with trafficking or crime cases handed to relevant agencies.

Ministry spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi urged landlords to check tenants’ immigration status and called on the public to report suspicious activities to enforce compliance.
