Rt Rev Joseph Eciru, Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, visited Soroti Regional Referral Hospital on April 28, 2026, where he led prayers for patients, drawing from James 5:15.
He urged Christians to pray with strong faith, assuring that such prayers not only restore health but also forgive sins. ‘Pray for the sick and anoint them with faith,’ the bishop emphasized.
Bishop Eciru stressed the harmony between spiritual and medical approaches, noting priests provide prayer and anointing while doctors and nurses deliver treatment. He invited divine intervention through healthcare workers and called on passersby to pray for the sick.
Dr Joseph Epodoi, speaking for the hospital director, welcomed the visit, saying it renewed staff commitment to compassionate care amid daily suffering. He highlighted the diocese’s partnership, offering patients sacraments, counseling, and spiritual aid alongside medicine.
Hospital chaplain Rev Fr Jorem Agelu shared how his role transformed his perspective on medical work, bringing fulfillment in rejuvenating lives.
The bishop also donated essentials like sugar, soap, salt, beans, and rice to patients.
