Jenaphar Nantume Egunyu, the Chief Administrative Officer of Nwoya District, has been remanded to Luzira Maximum Security Prison by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala. The charges stem from alleged abuse of office linked to an unauthorized animal market.

Police in Nwoya arrested Nantume on Monday amid an Inspectorate of Government (IG) probe. She appeared before Chief Magistrate Peter Fred Lochomin on Tuesday and was ordered held until May 4, 2026.

Nantume faces accusations of bypassing procedures to approve an illegal animal market in Got Okwara village, Lungulu sub-county, from January 2023 to December 2024. This move allegedly harmed Nwoya District Local Government’s interests.

Farmer Fred Kalisa from the same village was remanded with her. He is charged with running the illegal market and stealing about Shs20.6 million from the district during the same period.

Both denied the charges in court. Their bail applications failed due to missing documentation, per IG deputy spokesperson Farouk Kayondo.

An earlier IG statement mentioned a third suspect, businessman Ronald Wanda from Buikwe District, facing similar charges to Kalisa.
