On Tuesday morning, a mob in Zigoti Town Council, Mityana District, lynched Bruno Sekito, a 36-year-old from Kabagolo A village in Kikonge parish.
The attack happened around 6:00 am in Mabuye-Kabalungi Village along the Mityana-Kampala Highway. Police spokesperson Lamech Kigozi stated that Sekito allegedly tried to steal a motorcycle, prompting boda-boda riders to chase and catch him as he fled.
The local LC1 chairperson tried to intervene but failed to stop the angry crowd. After beating him to death, the mob burned his body before police arrived.
Officers recovered the charred remains and took them to Mityana Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Eyewitnesses confirmed Sekito was confronted while attempting to take the motorcycle and ran when questioned.
Wamala Region Police emphasized they do not tolerate mob justice. Uganda Police recorded 950 mob action cases in 2025, down from 1,016 in 2024.
