Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has credited interim coach Michael Carrick with revitalizing the club after their recent 2-1 Premier League win against Brentford.
The victory boosted United to third place with 61 points, putting them 11 points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, with just four matches remaining. This positions them strongly for a Champions League spot, a stark improvement from last season’s 15th-place finish.
United parted ways with previous manager Ruben Amorim in January after a challenging 14-month tenure marked by tactical struggles. Carrick has since instilled confidence, leading the team to nine wins in 13 games.
Maguire highlighted early successes under Carrick, including victories over Arsenal and Manchester City. ‘Everyone believed in it, and we’ve gathered together. We’ve got the confidence,’ he told Sky Sports, after assisting Casemiro’s opening goal against Brentford.
He contrasted the current form with Amorim’s era: ‘The games were fifty-fifty, but we always ended up on the back of a defeat. Now we’re better in both boxes—defending well and clinical upfront.’
United face fourth-placed Liverpool next on Sunday.
