The Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) is gearing up for its national elective general assembly on May 23, where all nine executive positions will be contested amid rising drama over the Director of Publicity role.

Emmy Alfred Jondu, known as ‘Sero’ in pool circles, was initially barred from running due to late registration. His first appeal failed, but the PAU Appeals Committee, led by lawyer Timothy Kajja, upheld his second bid by a 3-1 majority, allowing late nomination while fining him Shs250,000 for delays. The committee rejected calls to disband the electoral team.

Jondu quickly obtained forms and made the final nominee list released Tuesday. This ended incumbent George Katongole’s unopposed run, prompting Katongole to appeal, citing guideline violations on nomination deadlines and missing payment proof.

Katongole labeled the decision unfair and lodged his appeal at the National Council of Sports after paying a disputed Shs250,000 fee, which he deems excessive and unguided. Electoral vice chair Herbert Nsimbi noted extensions for missing documents like academic papers.

Other races include Gideon Onyango vs. Robert Kayanja for chair, with treasurer Cosmas Ssegawa and schools head Pius Mugambwa unopposed.

Final Nominees:

  • Chairman: Gideon Onyango, Robert Kayanja
  • Vice Chairman: Meyan Yusuf Magomu, Paul Okware
  • General Secretary: Rogers Ssemanda, Jackson Edau
  • Treasurer: Cosmas Ssegawa
  • Technical Director: Ismail K Nkata, Wasswa Muhamad Mukiibi Kayiiya, Glorious Donald Ampumuza

  • Head of Schools: Pius G. Mugambwa
