Key government oversight bodies—the Inspectorate of Government (IG), Office of the Auditor General (OAG), and Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA)—have rolled out a collaborative five-year anti-corruption roadmap. Approved at a meeting of their leaders at IG headquarters in Kampala, the plan seeks to unify efforts into a focused national strategy.
Inspector General Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Bagala praised the move as a bold step to eliminate corruption and enhance accountability. Auditor General Edward Akol called it a timely advancement for an accountable public service, while PPDA Executive Director Benson Turamye highlighted the shift from siloed operations to effective coordination.
The strategy outlines key goals like bolstering legal frameworks, advancing asset recovery and witness protection laws, and enforcing regulations consistently. It emphasizes engaging citizens, especially youth, women, and communities, alongside embedding integrity education in schools and universities.
Robust monitoring tools, including scorecards, reviews, and public reports, will track progress. With corruption draining over Shs10 trillion yearly from Uganda, the bodies target reduced losses, better services, stronger enforcement, and heightened awareness by 2030.
The event also featured an award from AFROSAI-E and EAAACA, attended by Deputy IGG Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe and other officials.
