A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at Mirembe Motors garage along Avis Road in Bwaise, Kampala, completely destroying the facility and its contents.

The blaze rapidly spread to adjacent businesses, razing shops and leaving multiple traders reeling from significant losses.

Garage workers reported that a watchman alerted them to the inferno. Joseph Kukose, one employee, speculated it might stem from stored flammable substances like oil, though fuel sales had ceased due to shortages.

Mustafa Mukisa confirmed at least five customer vehicles under repair were lost, alongside several overnight motorcycles and tuk-tuks. Police sealed the site, complicating damage assessments.

Nearby fruit seller Lukia Nalunkuma lost her entire stock of pineapples and watermelons, valued at Shs 1 million, which she had restocked using borrowed funds from a local Sacco.

Fire brigade arrived around midnight to contain the fire, but salvage efforts yielded little success. The location near timber yards heightens worries, as Uganda Police Fire and Rescue Services often cites faulty wiring, illegal connections, and business disputes as common causes in such areas.
