A tragic plane crash occurred on Monday approximately 20km southwest of Juba, South Sudan’s capital, claiming the lives of all 14 people aboard.

The Cessna 208 Caravan, registered 5Y-NOK and operated by CityLink Aviation Ltd., was en route from Yei to Juba International Airport. It departed at 09:15am local time and lost communication just 28 minutes later at 09:43am.

On board were 13 passengers and one pilot, comprising 12 South Sudanese nationals and two Kenyans. The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) confirmed there were no survivors.

Early indications point to adverse weather, including low visibility, as a possible cause. The SSCAA has sent a response team to the crash site for investigation, emergency support, and recovery operations.

South Sudan has faced numerous aviation incidents in the past, often linked to aging planes, overloading, harsh weather, and inadequate infrastructure.
