Nemostars Veterans Laud Rising Star Mujinya After Impressive Continental Debut
Nemostars' experienced players George Aporu and Smith Okumu have praised young talent Federicko Mujinya for his standout performance in the CAVB Men’s Club Championship, where he scored 12 points in a 3-0 win over Petrojet. Despite past registration controversies that sidelined the team from national finals, Mujinya is seen as a key prospect for the club's future. Federicko Mujinya first gained attention amid controversy when Nemostars faced accusations of fielding him without proper registration and transfer clearance. After Elyon’s petition following a 2-1 semifinal loss, Nemostars were disqualified from the National Volleyball League finals and replaced by Elyon. The club has appealed to the National Council of Sports, hoping to overturn the decision.
In Kigali, Rwanda, for the CAVB Men’s Club Championship, the Kabale University student proved his worth. As the sole debutant in the starting lineup alongside veterans like captain George Aporu, setter Smith Okumu, Bernard Malinga, Emmanuel Elanyu, and Daudi Okello, Mujinya shone in Nemostars’ 3-0 victory over Egypt’s Petrojet.
When Petrojet focused blocks on Okello, Okumu shifted plays to Mujinya, who responded with 12 points as the team’s second-highest scorer. Aporu hailed him as the exact young talent needed, vowing full support for his growth. Okumu described the quiet yet lethal athlete as confident, athletic, and receptive, stressing the importance of nurturing him.
Mujinya joined Nemostars mid-last season after starting with Mitooma Police. Nemostars lead Group A with two wins, despite a loss to hosts APR, positioning them well for the Round of 16 ahead of their final group match against Cameroon’s Litto Team.
