Speeding Driver Kills Seven Churchgoers on Mbarara-Bushenyi Highway

A tragic accident on Saturday morning claimed seven lives along the Mbarara-Bushenyi highway in Kabwohe. The victims were pedestrians heading home from an all-night prayer vigil at St Rose Catholic Church.

The crash happened around 6:30 am when a black Toyota Fielder, registration UAT 702D, veered off course and rammed into the group walking towards Mbarara. They were residents of Rukiga, Kabingo, Kitooha, and Karushegu areas.

The deceased include Dinavance Komugisha (47), Jane Rosa Kobusigye (69), Precious Ampereza (12), Editor Komugisha (40), Harriet Asiimwe (57), and Grace Namara (27), all female. Two survivors, Bruno Bimanyamukama (16) and Vicky Amanya (13), were rushed to ICOBI Hospital for treatment.

Eyewitness Mariespe Nsiimire described the car speeding before it lost control and hit the pedestrians on their side of the road. The driver fled, and traffic police managed the scene.

The bodies were taken to Kabwohe Health Centre mortuary for postmortems. Greater Bushenyi police have not yet issued an official statement on the cause.
