Patrick Katungi, father of 12-year-old Victor Katungi, a boarding student at St Savio Junior School in Kisubi, got a distressing midnight call on April 23, 2026. Victor’s class teacher, Benard Mangeni, reported the boy missing at 12:11am.
Rushing to the school around 1:00am, Patrick joined the teacher, matron, and head of security for a frantic search of the classrooms and compound. Victor’s dorm mates confirmed he was present during evening prep but vanished after being sent to fetch his science paper.
The search continued into the early hours without success. Patrick returned home briefly and came back at 6:00am on April 24 with his cousin Martha Mboneka. The headteacher failed to appear as promised, prompting them to file a missing child report at Kisubi Police Station.
Police reviewed school CCTV footage, revealing a scuffle between Victor and Mangeni at 8:15pm. Dressed in a red uniform, Victor was last seen slipping behind the classroom at 9:00pm before jumping the fence into a nearby plantation at 9:14pm.
Mboneka questioned why the teacher sent Victor to the locked dormitory for papers. Mangeni claimed the school is coordinating with undisclosed security teams and suggested Victor might have used hidden cash—up to Shs150,000—to flee, possibly traveling to Fort Portal. Patrick denied this, confirming he gave his son only Shs50,000 two weeks prior for a trip.
Patrick criticized the teacher’s unprofessional handling of the dispute, visible on camera, and the school’s three-hour delay in notifying him after prep ended at 9:00pm. Extensive searches around the school and bus terminals have turned up nothing.
The family urges anyone with information on Victor to contact Patrick at 0787860801 or Mangeni at 0784799492.
