The StarTimes Uganda Premier League has entered its most intense phase with only six rounds remaining, turning into a high-stakes battle for survival and supremacy.
Title hopefuls are wary of complacency as relegation-threatened teams fight desperately, creating opportunities for shocks. Kitara’s recent slide from second to fourth, marked by draws against Vipers and Calvary plus a loss to KCCA, highlights the fragility of form at this stage.
Second-placed KCCA, trailing leaders Vipers by four points on 51, travel to face bottom-side Calvary on Saturday. Despite Calvary’s poor record, their stubborn draws against top teams like Vipers, URA, and Kitara demand caution from the Lugogo side, fresh off a 1-0 win over Entebbe UPPC.
Vipers restored momentum with a 2-0 victory over Buhimba United and now host seventh-placed Entebbe UPPC in the ‘Entebbe road derby’ on Sunday. Coach Ivan Minnaert’s team must master transitions and tempo to counter UPPC’s fluid attacks ahead of their April 29 showdown with KCCA.
SC Villa, third on 48 points level with Kitara, secured a 1-0 win over Lugazi thanks to Frank Ssebuufu’s ninth goal. They face Buhimba United at home but need better attacking depth beyond their star striker.
Upcoming Fixtures:
- Saturday 4pm: Calvary vs KCCA, Lugazi vs Kitara, Maroons vs Police
- Saturday 8pm: SC Villa vs Buhimba United
- Sunday 8pm: Vipers vs Entebbe UPPC
In this pressure cooker, only teams with grit, depth, and consistency will claim the crown.
