Authorities in Uganda’s East Kyoga Region apprehended two more suspects early Monday in Akaikai village, Soroti District, pushing the number of people in custody to 13 over the killing of 36-year-old Patricia Kokunda.

Kokunda, who ran a mobile money business, was gunned down on April 3 while riding a commuter taxi toward Ocorimongin. Assailants stopped the vehicle, dragged her out, shot her several times, and escaped with her possessions. She was taken to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital but did not survive.

East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga stated that the latest arrests stemmed from an intelligence-driven raid. The two female suspects are accused of hiding the firearm used in the attack.

Investigators, guided by the women, recovered 18 rounds of SMG ammunition stashed in a grass-thatched kitchen. The gun itself had been found earlier.

All 13 suspects are held at CPS Soroti and are slated to face court on charges of aggravated robbery and murder by shooting, as probes continue.

Police vowed to track down any remaining culprits and deliver justice for the victim.
