Rogers Tayebwa, an agriculture officer attached to Rukoni East Sub County and Rwoho town council, appeared in court for the second time and was sent back on remand. The court, presided over by Magistrate Grade I Edgar Kakuru, heard from Senior Resident State Attorney Laudel Twinomugisha that investigations are ongoing.
Twinomugisha requested more time to complete the probe before committing Tayebwa to the High Court for trial. The case is set for another mention on June 25.
Tayebwa is accused of premeditated murder after allegedly killing his wife, Racheal Akampurira, a 33-year-old parish chief and Town Agent in Mparo Town Council, Rukiga District. Her body was discovered on February 9, 2026, in Omungyenyi swamp near Ntungamo-Kabale road.
Police grew suspicious when Tayebwa claimed they were attacked by thugs during a motorcycle ride, leaving his wife behind. He had no injuries despite saying he fell off the bike, leading to his arrest as the prime suspect.
Akampurira had reunited with Tayebwa just one week prior after fleeing to her parents’ home due to disagreements. Authorities are also pursuing other suspects.
