Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) held discussions in Kampala on April 23, 2026, to explore a media partnership focused on boosting awareness of quality standards nationwide.
UNBS Executive Director James Kasigwa emphasized the critical need for a ‘national quality culture’ to achieve Uganda’s ambition of a $500 billion economy. He noted that developed economies thrive on quality perceptions, unlike developing markets driven by price, and highlighted UNBS’s role in testing, certification, and export promotion.
Kasigwa urged media outlets to educate the public accurately, clarifying that UNBS is not just an enforcer of substandard goods but a facilitator of quality and trade. Deus Mubangizi, another UNBS official, stressed the importance of precise measurements in sectors like health and engineering, warning of severe consequences from errors.
NMG Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa affirmed the partnership’s alignment with their mission to build trust and positively impact society. She stated that both organizations share goals of promoting reliable products and national development.
Commercial General Manager Godfrey Mulengi Buheye outlined using NMG’s print, broadcast, and digital platforms to drive compliance and sensitize consumers, who often learn about standards only after losses from poor-quality items.
