Residents of Hahoola village in Butaleja District are reeling from a heartbreaking event where a 31-year-old mother, Rebecca Mbula Kalivamudhi, allegedly stabbed her two young children before ending her own life by ingesting poison.

Community members discovered the children in a pool of blood after responding to an alarm, rushing them to medical care where they fight for their lives in critical condition.

The tragedy reportedly arose from marital strife. Kalivamudhi’s mother-in-law, Esther Mugeragi, said the woman was deeply upset after her husband took another wife and failed to provide support.

Hundreds gathered at the home of the late John Mugeragi in Busaba sub-county on Tuesday to witness the scene. Geoffrey Bongo, the deceased’s brother, mourned the loss and called on struggling couples to pursue counseling or spiritual guidance.

Her husband, Benjamin Wanamiriye, a teacher at Busolwe Secondary School and Busaba Seed School, refrained from commenting due to overwhelming grief.
