Kalangala MP Helen Nakimuli Buried in Luweero Amid Calls for Justice

Helen Nakimuli, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District, was buried at 5:50pm on April 23, 2026, in Lunyolya village, Kalagala sub-county, Luweero District. Family, relatives, and friends gathered for the ceremony at her ancestral grounds.
Speakers at the funeral urged authorities to release a conclusive postmortem report to address lingering questions about her death, which her family has yet to fully understand. They also prayed for a successor with Nakimuli’s strong character to represent Kalangala.
In a recorded message, National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi praised the 40-year-old MP as an outspoken leader who showed great promise during her single term in Parliament. He highlighted her commitment to Kalangala’s people and unfulfilled plans for their development, calling for selfless service amid opposition challenges.
NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya emphasized her trustworthiness and assured continued support for Kalangala in finding a worthy replacement. Buganda’s Minister for Information noted her dedication to kingdom programs, especially women’s initiatives and HIV/AIDS efforts in the district.
MP Moses Kabuusu shared their joint efforts to improve water transport on Lake Victoria and maternal healthcare, underscoring her selfless drive for better services.
Born in 1985 to Rev Fr Christopher Walusimbi and Maria Nalwanga, Nakimuli started as a Community Development Officer in Kalangala before entering politics. Elected in 2021 for the 11th Parliament and re-elected in January 2026 for the 12th, she passed away on April 19, 2026, after surgery at Alexandria Medical Centre in Kampala.
