The High Court in Uganda has ruled that Christopher Okello Onyum has a case to answer in the tragic deaths of four young children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.
During a special mobile court session at Ggaba Community Church, Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha announced that the prosecution successfully built a prima facie case. This came after a two-week trial featuring testimony from 17 witnesses, including grieving parents and forensic specialists.
“Based on the evidence adduced by the prosecution, I find that you have a case to answer,” the judge directly addressed Okello, concluding the prosecution’s presentation.
Led by chief state attorneys Jonathan Muwaganya and Anna Kiiza, the prosecution detailed the final moments of victims Ryan Odeke, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Gideon Eteku, and Ignatius Sseruyange. Evidence suggested the suspect entered the daycare by pretending to be a parent before carrying out the attack on April 2.
With this ruling, the trial advances to the defense phase, where Okello will have the chance to counter the allegations.
