The High Court in Kampala determined that prime suspect Christopher Okello Onyum has a case to answer on four murder charges linked to the brutal stabbing of toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.
Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha made the ruling on Thursday, following the prosecution’s closure after calling 18 witnesses. She stated that the evidence presented warrants Okello presenting his defence on each count.
The judge informed Okello of his options: delivering a sworn testimony subject to cross-examination, making an unsworn statement without questioning, or remaining silent. He can also call defence witnesses.
Okello, represented by lawyers Richard Kumbuga and Sarah Awelo, received 30 minutes to consult before deciding. The victims—Gideon Eteku, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Ignitius Sseruyange, and Ryan Odeke—were aged one to two-and-a-half years when attacked on April 2, 2026.
Okello denies the charges. The case will resume once he selects his defence approach, moving forward in one of Uganda’s most horrific child killing incidents.
