Gender-based violence (GBV) is undermining global initiatives to eradicate obstetric fistula by 2030, according to the World Health Organization’s goals. Women and girls living with this debilitating condition, often resulting from prolonged labor, are being pushed closer to the grave due to compounded abuse.
Obstetric fistula leads to chronic incontinence and social isolation, making survivors prime targets for GBV. Reports highlight how violence disorients recovery and treatment progress, stalling elimination efforts.
In Uganda, this intersection of fistula and GBV demands urgent intervention to protect vulnerable women and align with international health targets.
