Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal suffered a torn left hamstring during his team’s narrow 1-0 victory against Celta Vigo on Wednesday. The 18-year-old won and converted a penalty in the 40th minute, marking his 16th La Liga goal this season, but immediately collapsed in pain without celebrating.
The club announced Thursday that Yamal will miss the final six La Liga games but is projected to be fit for Spain’s World Cup appearances. He will undergo conservative treatment, avoiding surgery.
In an emotional Instagram post to his 41.6 million followers, Yamal expressed disappointment at missing key moments with Barcelona. ‘This injury leaves me off the field at the time I most wanted to be, and it hurts more than I can explain,’ he wrote, vowing to return stronger next season.
The win bolstered Barcelona’s nine-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga standings.
Spain faces Cape Verde on June 15 and Saudi Arabia on June 21 in Atlanta for Group H, followed by Uruguay on June 26 in Zapopan, Mexico. Yamal, who helped Spain win Euro 2024 at age 16, has six goals in 25 international caps.
