Uganda’s fuel supply is stable and sufficient, according to the Ministry of Energy and Uganda National Oil Company (Unoc). This update follows monitoring of national stocks and supply chains.

As of April 20, 2026, stocks include 70.5 million litres of petrol for 19 days, 43.2 million litres of diesel for 12 days, and 32 million litres of jet fuel for 53 days. These levels meet operational standards, supported by shipments heading to Mombasa and Tanzanian ports.

From May to June, Uganda anticipates 183 million litres of petrol, 258 million litres of diesel, and 23 million litres of jet fuel. This will extend coverage by 49 days for petrol, 74 for diesel, and 37 for jet fuel.

Recent shortages at some stations stem from logistical issues with individual oil marketing companies, not a national deficit. Price hikes in border towns like Arua and Tororo result from cross-border demand, with officials addressing unjustified increases.

The government urges calm and discourages panic buying, as Unoc coordinates distribution with partners. Global factors may influence prices, but monitoring continues to maintain affordability.

Regional expert Peter Ochieng notes that while national volumes are healthy, retail issues arise from distribution and cash flow challenges for smaller dealers. Confirmed shipments ensure two to three months of supply security.
