The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has issued a firm rebuttal against circulating reports accusing its executive director, Dr. Chris Mukiza, of attempting to shoot Rubanda West MP Moses Kamuntu.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred over the weekend at a hotel in Kololo, but UBOS dismissed the claims as entirely fabricated.
In a statement, UBOS Principal Public Relations Officer Didacus Okoth described the story as ‘baseless, false and with malicious intentions’ designed to harm Dr. Mukiza’s reputation and the agency’s image. He further condemned the reporting as a defamatory piece intended for extortion.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire corroborated UBOS’s position, stating that no report or complaint had been received from Kamuntu. ‘As police, we have not received any information regarding that matter, and I am only learning about it from the media,’ he added.
UBOS urged the public to disregard the misinformation spread by certain online outlets.
