Monica Azuba Ntege, Uganda’s former Works and Transport Minister, has passed away, according to a source close to the matter. She died at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, though no official confirmation on the cause has been released yet.

Appointed in 2016, Azuba Ntege succeeded John Byabagambi and managed key road and transport projects during her over three-year tenure. She left cabinet in 2019, replaced by Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala.

In 2018, she drew attention by announcing probes into senior officials accused of misappropriating part of a $2 million performance bond from SGS Uganda Limited, a firm handling motor vehicle inspections.

Her role placed her at the heart of efforts to boost Uganda Airlines, expand road networks, and address accountability in public contracts.

Azuba Ntege’s husband, Mark Kawesa Ntege, died on January 12, 2025. The couple, married since 1998, had eight children. No statements from family or government on funeral plans were available by press time.
