Africa is poised for a historic showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with 10 nations qualifying for the first time ever. This doubles the continent’s previous representation at the tournament, set to feature 48 teams and 104 matches from June 11 to July 19.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) sealed its spot last month, joining debutants Cape Verde, Morocco’s semi-finalists from 2022, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, and Ghana under new coach Carlos Queiroz. South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will kick off against Mexico in Mexico City.

SuperSport, via DStv and GOtv, will broadcast nearly half of Africa’s matches with tailored packages blending satellite and streaming. Coverage includes English, Portuguese, Kiswahili for East Africa, isiZulu, SeSotho, and Pidgin, plus non-live studio content from the Americas.

Hollywood actor Idris Elba, with Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean heritage, starred in the announcement video: “There are ten of us now. I just want to see African football light up the world stage.” Canal+ content director Rendani Ramovha highlighted customer-centric access on DStv Access bouquet and weekly African team features.

Ugandan fans can catch matches airing between 10pm and 5am over 39 days.
