Authorities in the Greater Bushenyi region have taken seven people into custody amid probes into the killing of local businessman Abias Asiimwe, aged 57.
Asiimwe, from Kashenyi ward, went missing on April 18 after being spotted at Kashenyi trading centre heading to a lodge in Ishaka Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. His family reported him absent the next day at Kashenyi police station.
The search turned tragic when officers and locals found a charred, dismembered corpse on the lodge grounds, believed to be Asiimwe’s, pending formal identification via medical checks.
Regional Police Spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa noted key progress, with the detainees—including prime suspect Clinton Aikiriza, Bridget Namusisi, Edgar Twinamatsiko, Oswald Mugisha, Hellen Keminyento, Arnold Ainomugisha, and Shallon Ninsiima—helping inquiries.
Forensic experts have combed the site and gathered evidence. The body is now at Kitagata hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Uganda Police condemned the savage act, offering condolences to Asiimwe’s kin and vowing updates as detectives probe the motive.
