Arteta Insists Premier League Title Race Is On After Arsenal's Loss to Man City

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remained upbeat despite a narrow 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday. Erling Haaland’s second-half strike denied the Gunners a chance to extend their lead to nine points in the Premier League title chase.

A win would have bolstered Arsenal’s bid for their first English title since 2004. Instead, City can reclaim the top spot if they beat Burnley in their game in hand on Wednesday, with Arsenal holding a three-point lead after 33 matches.

“The Premier League starts again almost,” Arteta said post-match. “They have a game in hand, we are three points ahead, five games to play so game on.”

The players expressed disappointment but refocused on the remaining fixtures, which appear kinder to Arsenal: home clashes with Newcastle, Fulham, and Burnley, plus away games at West Ham and Crystal Palace.

City’s schedule post-Burnley includes tough outings against Everton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace. Arsenal face added pressure from a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Arteta noted the Gunners’ recent slump—four losses in their last six games across competitions and no league win in over a month—but stressed the league’s unpredictability.

“It’s going to be tough for both of us,” he added. “Everything is still to play for. We’re not going to stop and we’re going to go again.”
