Open Letter from Canada Urges Besigye, Bobi Wine, and Museveni to Embrace Love and Unity

A Tanzanian writer based in Canada pens an emotional appeal to Uganda's prominent leaders—Kizza Besigye, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), and President Yoweri Museveni—calling on them to set aside hatred, forgive one another, and recognize that power belongs to the people, not themselves. In a heartfelt open letter addressed to Kizza Besigye, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), and President Yoweri Museveni, Nkwazi Mhango, a member of the Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador, urges these influential figures to prioritize love, forgiveness, and unity over division and conflict.

Mhango reminds them that they carry the hopes of millions of Ugandans and, as seasoned leaders, must resolve differences creatively. He emphasizes their shared Ugandan identity, the fleeting nature of power, and their Christian faith, which commands love even for political adversaries.

Drawing from the biblical warning ‘live by the sword, die by the sword’ and the East African song ‘Sina Makosa’ by Les Wanyika, the author argues that leaders should not fight over power, which ultimately belongs to the people—like quarreling over someone else’s spouse.

He calls for mutual respect, forgiveness, and genuine love as the foundation for serving Uganda effectively, warning that hatred, lies, and manipulation will backfire. ‘Charity begins at home,’ Mhango writes, insisting that if these leaders cannot reconcile, they cannot lead the nation.

The letter concludes with a personal note of affection, encouraging them to love one another so Ugandans can trust and follow them.
