President Yoweri Museveni addressed supporters at Lango College in Lira City on April 18, 2026, emphasizing a post-election pivot to development. With polls concluded, he declared the top priority as extending PDM benefits to all remaining households within five years.
Launched in 2022, PDM seeks to move 3.5 million subsistence households into the money economy. Museveni urged leaders to track progress parish by parish, specifying how many homesteads have received the Shs1 million seed capital and how many are left.
To boost incomes, the government will distribute free coffee and fruit seedlings using state land and seed beds, complementing local enterprise choices like livestock rearing.
For Lango Sub-region, he listed key focuses: PDM, Emyooga savings groups, livestock restocking, road maintenance, and anti-corruption measures. He warned embezzlers of prison time at Luzira, stressing wealth creation as the foundation for better health, education, and power services.
Museveni highlighted regional trade ties with Kenya, Tanzania, and DRC to secure markets. Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua praised Lango’s 84.48% voter support, crediting grassroots NRM mobilization for the president’s landslide win in the January 2026 election.
Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng welcomed Museveni, noting Lira City’s 80.4% backing despite urban challenges. She called for more coffee seedlings to support the four-acre farming model and pushed for an airport and industrial park to drive jobs and trade.
