Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces have booked their spot in the African Champions League final, overcoming a 1-0 loss to Renaissance Berkane in the second leg to advance 2-1 on aggregate.
The military outfit dominated the first leg 2-0 in Rabat last week and defended their lead until Yassine Labhiri scored from a penalty in the 57th minute of the return fixture. Berkane, in their maiden Champions League campaign, couldn’t find an equalizer to force penalties.
Royal Armed Forces will now challenge South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, who sealed a 2-0 aggregate victory against Tunisia’s Esperance earlier that day.
The final kicks off with the first leg at Sundowns on May 15, followed by the return match in Rabat a week later. The Moroccan side last won the continental title in 1985 and hasn’t reached the final since.
