During the 5th graduation ceremony at Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery in Kabale, Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, addressed 360 graduates, urging them to prioritize kindness and empathy in their work.

The bishop highlighted that nurses and midwives handle critical moments of pain, birth, recovery, and loss, where compassion often matters more than skills alone. He stressed upholding professionalism, integrity, and respect for every patient as beings created in God’s image.

Principal Darius Asiimwe advised the graduates—28% male and 72% female—not to let limited resources compromise care but to innovate instead. He called on them to represent the school through competence, kindness, and faith, noting challenges like a 1:110,000 nurse-to-patient ratio and preventable maternal deaths.

As chief guest, Prof. Justus Baragaine, a Makerere University gynecologist, encouraged using qualifications strictly for nursing duties, maintaining composure, proper documentation, and professional attire like uniforms.

Founded in 2013 by the Diocese of Kigezi with 25 students, the school now enrolls 350.
