Unknown attackers ambushed a security guard on duty in Iganga Municipality, leaving him unconscious and fleeing with his firearm during a pre-dawn raid.

The incident unfolded around 4:00am on April 16, 2026, at Samisa Electronics and Agent Banking in Kasokoso Central I Village, Kasokoso Ward, Iganga Central Division. ASP Michael Kasadha, Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed the guard, 28-year-old Ochen Vincent from Wolves Security Company Iganga Branch, was struck on the head and found in a pool of blood.

Assailants made off with an SAR rifle (registration UG PSO 56S4101565-13018) containing five live rounds, plus other items. Officers documented the scene, deployed a sniffer dog that traced a trail to a nearby video hall, and collected forensic exhibits alongside CCTV footage.

Vincent received initial treatment at Iganga Hospital before transfer to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital. Investigations into the aggravated robbery aim to identify suspects and recover the weapon.

This attack highlights ongoing concerns, with police recording 7,863 robbery cases in 2025, down slightly from 8,163 in 2024.
