The Victoria Pearls, already champions of the Easter Women’s T20 Cup, face the USA in a decisive match at Entebbe Oval. Despite securing the title, Uganda wants an unblemished record in this evolved tri-series, originally set to include Nepal but adjusted due to travel issues.
Uganda boasts five wins from six games, with one no-result and a Net Run Rate of 2.04. The campaign kicked off with a thrilling one-run victory over the USA, highlighted by Sarah Akiteng’s four-wicket haul. Further wins included a 65-run thrashing of the USA and successes against Uganda A.
Akiteng leads with 13 wickets and tops the MVP points at 386. Key batters like Immaculate Nakisuuyi (94 runs), Rita Musamali (92), Stephanie Nampiina (90), and Esther Iloku (85) have supported, though the top order needs refinement, as noted by coaches Deus Muhumuza and Brian Masaba.
The tournament tested squad depth through rotations and gave Uganda A valuable exposure, despite their winless streak. The USA has two victories from four matches, led by captain Aditiba Chudasama’s eight wickets, and eyes an upset before the ICC Women’s Challenge Trophy in Rwanda.
With U.S. Ambassador William Popp expected and a crowd anticipated, the 2pm clash promises excitement. Uganda’s bowling has shone, but a polished batting display could signal readiness for upcoming challenges.
