The Stanbic Bank Entebbe Match-Play Golf Challenge at Entebbe Club has reached the quarterfinals, with notable upsets in Round Two over the weekend.
Defending champions Charles Kabunga and Steven Kitamirike were eliminated 2-up by Paul Nsereko and Patrick M. Mugisha on the par-3 18th hole. Nsereko, the back marker, credited strong approaches and resilience after a missed putt kept the match tight until the end.
Nsereko and Mugisha next face 2025 runners-up Picole Jonathan Lukyamuzi and Henry Nsubuga, who beat Nelson Ojwiya and Edward Okech 2&1, on May 9.
In women’s action, 2024 winners Lillian Koowe and Joyce Kisembo conceded a walkover to Edrae Kagombe and Evelyn Atukunda. Esther Aganyira and Arthur Arinaitwe secured a 4&3 victory over Saleh Kalema and Aggrey Mutaka, leaving three ladies’ pairs in contention.
Other key results included Daniel Kalungi and Anthony Agaba defeating Elly Mukasa and Kiryowa Kiwanuka 4&3, Herbert Kamuntu and Stephen Ojambo winning 5&4 over Jimmy Adiga and Lino Anguzu, and Allan Sematimba and Hannington Mulumba prevailing in a four-hole sudden-death playoff against Paul Mukiza and Francis Mukonyezi.
Past winners include 2025’s Kabunga-Kitamirike, 2024’s Koowe-Kisembo, and earlier champs like Richard Mucunguzi-Saidi Kirarira in 2023.
