Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer expressed confidence ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday. Despite a narrow 2-1 victory in the first leg, Neuer warned that the Spanish giants, facing a tough season, could prove unpredictable when cornered.
The Bavarians are chasing a treble, boasting a 12-point lead in the Bundesliga and a spot in the German Cup semi-finals against Bayer Leverkusen on April 22. They could clinch the league title this weekend if Borussia Dortmund falters against Hoffenheim.
Real Madrid, eliminated from the Copa del Rey and trailing Barcelona by nine points in La Liga, see the Champions League as their last trophy hope. ‘When you’re backed into a corner, you can move mountains,’ Neuer noted, drawing from Bayern’s own past struggles.
Bayern’s form is exceptional, highlighted by a 5-0 thrashing of St Pauli that set a new Bundesliga record of 105 goals with five games left. ‘We’re in the driver’s seat, still in all competitions, and it’s in our hands,’ Neuer said.
Neuer emphasized the slim one-goal margin, stressing high motivation and the need for focus to avoid a Real comeback.
