The family of Tooro Kingdom’s Prince David Kijanangoma has launched a public appeal for financial help as he battles advanced throat cancer.

Diagnosed over a year ago, the prince has undergone chemotherapy at Nakasero Hospital and Uganda Cancer Institute. His spokesperson, David Irumba, revealed that recent health declines led to an emergency admission, marked by bed shortages and high costs that have overwhelmed the family.

“We’ve spent every available resource on his treatment,” Irumba stated, highlighting the need for Shs 700 million to fund care in India.

Communities across Uganda are stepping up with initiatives like car washes in Fort Portal, Kampala, Jinja, and Mbarara, alongside planned charity concerts by Tooro artists and a fundraising marathon.

Irumba also urged President Yoweri Museveni, addressed as ‘mujwarakondo’ (defender of the kingdom), for assistance. A Babiito clan member noted the family’s private support during this ordeal.

Son of the late Paul Kijanangoma and grandson of George Edward Rukidi, the prince once sparked controversy in 2015 by challenging the kingdom’s leadership but reconciled in 2019. Now, focus remains on his urgent medical needs.
