Mustafa Kizza, hailing from the modest Kibuli neighborhood in Kampala, has quickly made waves in Kenya’s Premier League. The 26-year-old Ugandan left back joined Nairobi United from NEC in January and has already scored two breathtaking goals that are in contention for goal of the season.

His debut strike came on February 21 against Bidco United at Ulinzi Sports Complex. Kizza curled a corner kick directly into the net—an Olimpico—for the opener in a 3-0 victory. “I practiced that swerve beforehand, and it paid off,” he shared.

On Sunday, he added another gem against Shabana at Kasarani. Entering as a substitute in the 86th minute with his team up 2-0, Kizza spotted the goalkeeper off his line in stoppage time and lofted the ball from midfield for a 3-0 win, ending a five-match winless streak.

Kizza credits his coach’s advice and sharp observation for the lob. He follows in the footsteps of Ugandan stars like Dan Serunkuma and Godfrey Walusimbi who thrived in Kenya.

Despite being a defender, Kizza idolizes midfielder Victor Wanyama, whom he played alongside at CF Montreal under Thierry Henry’s coaching, and Arsenal legend Henry. Both inspired similar wonder goals in their careers. Wanyama, who mentored Kizza like a brother, retired recently.

With 16 caps and four goals for Uganda Cranes, including one in the 2019 Cecafa Cup final win, Kizza aims to return for Afcon 2027 alongside his three footballer brothers. He also plans to resume studies in Business Administration at Makerere University Business School and dreams of journalism.
