Police Recover AK-47 Used in Soroti Mobile Money Agent's Murder

East Kyoga regional police have recovered an AK-47 rifle suspected in the murder of Patricia Kokunda, a mobile money agent in Soroti.

Kokunda was fatally shot around 4:40 a.m. on April 3, 2026, at Teso Coach Park on Station Road while boarding a taxi to Ocorimogin cattle market in Katakwi district for her weekly business.

Armed attackers robbed her of cash before shooting her, with the incident captured on CCTV.

Five suspects have been arrested: Alex Okello, Felix Onego, Simon Epeu (aka Iboda), Elacu Alfred (alleged gunman), and one unidentified individual found with the rifle in Karamoja.

In Anyara, police arrested Epeu and recovered Shs 7 million believed to be from the robbery. Kokunda’s smartphone was found abandoned in a bush in Kichinjani Ward, Soroti City.

Regional police commander Ibrahim Saiga confirmed the weapon’s recovery, stating investigations continue to trace its origin. All suspects remain detained and are cooperating.

Saiga assured intensified operations to bring all involved in the robbery and murder to justice.
