On Sunday, the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, led the installation of five reverends as clergy canons at St Peter’s Cathedral on Rugarama Hill in Kabale Town.

The new canons took oaths promising to obey the bishop, honor the President of Uganda, and follow the Church of Uganda’s canons. Bishop Akanjuna blessed them, calling for humility, divine guidance, and exemplary service to God and the community.

Those installed include Rev Dr Jasper Tumuhimbise, CEO of Church Commissioners Holdings Company Ltd; Rev Danniel Byamukama, Diocesan Mission Coordinator; Rev Ven Norman Twakiire, Archdeacon of Buhangizi; Rev Ven Emmanuel Naamanya, Archdeacon of All Saints; and Rev Ven Oscar Mwesigwa, Archdeacon of Bubaare.

Diocesan Secretary Rev Canon Milton Nkurunungi noted that the selections were endorsed by the Diocesan Synod on March 27 for their strong leadership. Their duties involve advising the bishop on planning and development while safeguarding faith and order.

Rev Canon Reuben Byomuhangi, head of clergy, stated the move raises the number of canons from five to eleven, meeting church requirements and filling leadership gaps. Rev Danniel Byamukama expressed gratitude, emphasizing greater humility in service.

Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono, head of laity, praised the appointments for boosting evangelism in the diocese.
