Bournemouth delivered a stunning 2-1 victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, dramatically shaking up the title race.
The Cherries took control early, with 19-year-old sensation Eli Junior Kroupi opening the scoring in the 17th minute via a deflected cross. The French teenager has now notched 10 top-flight goals this season, echoing Robbie Keane’s feat from 1999-2000.
Arsenal leveled just before halftime through Viktor Gyokeres’ penalty kick, awarded after Ryan Christie handled the ball in the box. Despite substitutions including Eberechi Eze, Max Dowman, and Leandro Trossard, the Gunners struggled to find rhythm.
Midfielder Alex Scott proved decisive in the 74th minute, slotting home after a smooth team move to secure the win and hand Arsenal their first defeat in nine league outings.
Manager Mikel Arteta called the loss ‘a big punch in the face,’ admitting his team fell short of expectations. Arsenal hold 70 points from 32 games, nine ahead of Manchester City’s 61 from 30, but City can cut the deficit against Chelsea on Sunday and host Arsenal next weekend.
Fans voiced frustration with boos at full time as Arsenal eye midweek Europa League action against Sporting.
