The Hoima Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded 61-year-old Solomon Sabiiti, a retired secondary school head teacher from Kiboga Cell, Katooke Town Council in Kyenjojo District, on charges of neglecting to keep proper records of his taxi driver.

Sabiiti, owner of the taxi (UBQ 853E) linked to the fatal crash, was arrested Thursday evening and held at Hoima Central Police Station. He appeared before Chief Magistrate George Kunihira on Friday, pleaded not guilty, and denied the allegations.

The magistrate entered a not guilty plea, noting no update on investigation progress from the State. The case is set for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for a bail application and potential hearing start if probes conclude.

Sabiiti sought bail citing diabetes and hypertension, lacking medication, but it was denied without the prosecutor present. Prison authorities were ordered to provide medical aid, and he was sent to Kiryatete Government Prison.

Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Hakiza stated charges followed state guidance; Sabiiti claimed ignorance of the driver during questioning.

Former Kikuube Chairperson Peter Banura, 48, died last Saturday in a Butyamba crash while driving his Toyota Hilux (UG 3400084). He was buried Thursday in Kigaya Cell, Buhimba Town Council.
