Ubaldo Bamunoba, Director of the Chief Political Commissariat, has directed police in Uganda’s Kigezi sub-region to enhance partnerships with communities and local leaders to combat crime effectively.
This follows the deaths of five individuals in separate incidents between April 3 and 7 in Kisoro and Rukungiri districts. Bamunoba emphasized that officers must act as role models and avoid perceptions of involvement in wrongdoing.
Speaking at Kabale district headquarters after a meeting with regional commanders and staff, he described Kigezi, Ankole, Rwenzori, and Albertine regions as largely stable, with his tour focused on evaluating police operations.
Bamunoba highlighted efforts to support officers’ families through income projects like poultry, piggery, and handicrafts for spouses, urging district leaders to include them in government wealth programs.
Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Maate praised the move, noting it would address startup capital shortages and provide financial security, especially post-retirement.
Police aim to improve security and officer welfare through these community and support initiatives.
