Machete Gangs Terrorize Kayunga Residents, Injuring Three in Raids

Machete-wielding gangs have caused chaos in Kitimbwa Sub-County, Kayunga District, injuring three residents and looting homes and shops. The attacks occurred on Wednesday night in villages including Nakivubo B, Nkokonjeru, Bisaka, and Tweyagalire, where suspects set up illegal roadblocks to ambush victims.

Local leaders report that the perpetrators, mostly known youths from the area, have beaten shop owners and stolen items in recent days. Kitimbwa Sub-County chairperson Michael Malinga noted the growing panic, with residents now locking themselves indoors before 7 pm.

Victims like 23-year-old barber Geofrey Ochomo, businessman Songa Wandera (25), and Alex Kagugube (30) suffered machete wounds to their hands, heads, and backs. They are receiving treatment at Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital, according to area chairperson Nelson Ogwala.

Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto confirmed that 13 suspects are in custody at Kayunga Central Police Station, facing charges of attempted murder, housebreaking, and theft. Authorities recovered knives, pangas, and burglary tools from them, and are hunting remaining gang members.

Kayunga District Police Commander Hussein Mugarura visited the villages for community policing and pledged swift court action. He called on locals and leaders to collaborate with police to curb crime.
